Workshops

We offer hands-on workshops by request and are happy to tailor each one to suit your group’s interests and needs. The workshops range from carving a fan bird, learning how to make fire, cooking on a wood fire, making your own cutting board, making a small piece of furniture, to building your community’s cob pizza oven. We adapt the format to fit your community’s needs. Workshops can take place anywhere in Switzerland—we’ll gladly come to you.

Our Workshop Types

  • Fanbirds

You’ll create a fan bird from a single block of wood. First, you use a chisel, knife, and gouge to shape the feathers. Then, with a splitting knife, you carefully release them. Finally, the magic comes to life when you move the feathers into wings!

    Your workshop instructor

We're delighted to collaborate with Sandra Witteman, a former goldsmith who has found her passion in wood sculpting.

Location: We host in Walchwil, or can arrange to bring the workshop to your location.

  • Cooking on Wood Fire

You’ll cook a full meal over open flames, using only fire, wood, and your senses. From building the fire to preparing seasonal ingredients, you’ll learn traditional techniques like grilling, smoking, and slow-roasting.

    Your workshop instructors

Nicolas Petit-Barreau has been making fire since he was 5 years old and Diederick Petit-Barreau is a professional cook. The two brothers share their passion for slow food, community, and the art of cooking.

  • Make your own pizza oven

You’ll build your own wood-fired pizza oven using cob—a natural mix of clay, sand, and straw. Step by step, you’ll shape the oven by hand, learning traditional techniques that have been used for centuries.

    Your workshop instructor

With a passion for simple tools, natural materials, and self-reliance, Nicolas Petit-Barreau guides you through the process. His workshops are as much about community and connection as they are about craft.

Location: The oven will be built at a location chosen by one of the participants, where it will remain for future use.
